USC Dentistry: Periodontics & Implant Dentistry Symposium 2008 (Dr. D.L. Cochran)
The USC School of Dentistry’s Office of Continuing Oral Health Professional Education (www.uscdentalce.org) has the mission of promoting excellent training and the highest standards of oral health care nationally and internationally. Through its state-of-the art program, the CE office offers a wide array of comprehensive courses and life-long learning experiences for general dentists, specialists and allied professionals.
The lecture presented by Dr. David L. Cochran was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Cochran is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his D.D.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Medical College of Virginia. He was also trained in Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Cochran is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a fellow of the American College of Dentistry and the International College of Dentistry. Dr. Cochran has published numerous scientific articles and abstracts on periodontics, biochemistry and implant dentistry. He has received awards for his research work at both the national and international levels. Dr. Cochran is an active basic science and clinical researcher who has received funding from both the NIH-NIDR and private industry.

The lecture presented by Dr. Arvie Malik was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Malik received her Bachelors of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Texas Woman’s University. She has over 23 years of clinical experience in both periodontal and prosthodontic practices in Texas and Califorinia. Currently, she practices full-time in a private Prosthodontic practice in Newport Beach, California. Dr. Malik has been teaching part-time for over 15 years at West Los Angeles College in the Department of Dental Hygiene. She serves as a lecturer in the section of Periodontics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also instructs hygienists on the use of magnification and other technological advances and serves as a clinical instructor at the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute (NCOFI). Formerly, she was a Clinical Educator Consultant for Dentsply Corporation.

The lecture presented by Dr. Craig M. Misch was part of the 34th Annual USC International Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2009. Dr. Misch received postgraduate certificates in prosthodontics and oral implantology and a Master of Dental Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Pittsburgh. Dr. Misch holds dental faculty appointments at New York University, the University of Florida and the University of Pittsburgh. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and currently practices as a dual specialist in Sarasota Florida. He is on the editorial boards of several professional organizations.

The lecture presented by Dr. Sonia Leziy was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Leziy received her dental degree from McGill University and post-graduate degree in periodontics from the University of British Columbia, Canada. Dr. Leziy is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a Fellow of the ICOI and Past-President of the British Columbia Society of Periodontists. Dr. Leziy is a member of the advisory board of the Spectrum Dialogue Journal, a member of the Nobel Biocare Global Scientific Committee and a member of the Nobel Biocare NobelKnowledge web expert panel. She is an istant Clinical Professor and sessional lecturer at the University of British Columbia. She also serves as a co-mentor for the VIP study club, a Vancouver chapter of the Seattle Study Club. She has published and has been lecturing internationally on implants and esthetics/periodontal plastic surgery. Dr. Leziy maintains a full-time private practice in periodontics and implant surgery.

The lecture presented by Dr. Homa Zadeh was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Zadeh is ociate Professor at the USC School of Dentistry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He graduated from the USC School of Dentistry and completed the advanced clinical education in Periodontology and earned his PhD degree in Immunology from the University of Connecticut. He serves as the editorial reviewer for several scientific journals, and chairs a Scientific Study Section of the NIH. Dr. Zadeh also leads a research team, funded by the NIH. His clinical research interests involve studies on minimally invasive surgery and tissue engineering. He is the Director of the USC Periodontal and Implant Symposium and maintains a part-time private practice limited to Periodontology and Implants in Southern California.

The lecture presented by Dr. Charles Cobb was part of the 33rd Annual USC Periodontal & Implant Symposium held in Los Angeles in 2008. Dr. Cobb graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), School of Dentistry, in 1964. He received a Specialty Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology, both from UMKC in 1966. Following two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Cobb returned to school at Georgetown University, graduating in 1971 with a Ph.D. in Microanatomy. After graduation from Georgetown, he held teaching and research positions at Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In addition to teaching and research, he has experienced 15 years of full-time private practice in Periodontics. Dr. Cobb recently retired from academics as Professor Emeritus at UMKC. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, has published over 165 peer-review articles and presented over 120 programs at regional, national and international meetings.
